Community Supper Trinity Church serves the Potsdam community by hosting a free Community Supper on the 4th Thursday of each month. We've found that the community has been very appreciative of our offerings; we have gained quite a following. Typical attendance is anywhere from 40-100. Our guests enjoy fellowship, food, and live music. Many thanks to the musicians who have contributed! Parishioners have contributed faithfully to this important ministry by donating food, providing financial assistance, serving the diners each week. . Others who have donated services or food include students from SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson, and Kraft Food. Fall Island Fair For many years, the Fall Island Fair has been a highlight of the Trinity summer. Timed to coincide with Potsdam's Summer Festival, the Fair includes children's games, face-painting, crafts, used book sale, bake sale, and tours of the Church. Daughters of the King The Daughters of the King is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in common with it, or churches in the Historic Episcopate. The Order of the Daughters of the King is organized as a religious order. Members undertake a rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. By reaffirming the promises made at Baptism and Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service, and evangelism dedicated to the spread of Christ s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of the parish. Because of this vow, Daughters refer to themselves as an order, not an organization. On January 24, 2004, the Chapter of the Holy Trinity of the Daughters of the King was established at Trinity Church and its first members were instituted. We currently have six active members. : Because we are each active in a variety of programs at Trinity Church involving service and evangelism, we have devoted ourselves as Daughters to daily devotions and prayer, particularly praying for our clergy and the needs of our congregation. We have found that prayer is indeed a mighty tool. We have also been exploring the concept prayer together by studying C. S. Lewis Letters to Malcolm in our monthly meetings. The beautiful banner of our cross on stained glass, which hangs in Trinity s chapel, was made for us by Becky MacKellar, for whom we are very grateful. We bring our banner to deanery and diocesan meetings of the Daughters to represent our Chapter. Becky MacKellar graced us with a second banner, which celebrates our Junior Daughter Chapter. We encourage more women of Trinity to consider becoming a Daughter of the King. If you are interested or want to know more about our Order, please contact any of our members. |
