In a strictly practical sense, we use the term "Stewardship" to talk about giving time, treasure, and talent to maintaining ourplace of worship. But taking care of the facility is only one aspect of being responsible for the well-being of the church. Financial contributions from our parishioners are crucial to maintaining building and staff and furthering our mission, but we are not simply trying to meet the budget. More importantly, we seek to foster a lifestyle of giving as fundamental to being Christian people and disciples of Jesus Christ. The language of stewardship is not merely intended to give a religious gloss to the task of raising money; it is to hold before ourselves the truth that all that we have comes from God, that we are stewards of what we hold in trust from Him. So to give is not just to make a "donation to the church.". It is to make a sacrificial offering to God and to express our gratitude and obedience. The basic concept is this: GOD is the object of our giving. And by giving to God, we make it possible for us as the Body of Christ on Fall Island to serve Him and reach out compassionately to others. |
